Shirin van Anrooij
U23 UCI Cyclocross World Champion
Winner of Trofeo Alfredo Binda 2023
Shirin van Anrooij is a talent to be reckoned with in the Women’s World Tour peloton. As a junior, Shirin was World Junior Cyclocross Champion and won multiple national titles in both road and cyclocross.
After showing this early form, Shirin was offered the chance to join Lidl Trek (then Trek-Segafredo) at the age of 18. Shirin earned a neo-pro contract and joined the team with the likes of Lizzie Deignan and Elisa Longo Borghini as her teammates in her first year in the elite ranks.
Shirin splits her time across both cyclocross and road, having claimed world medals in both. The 22/23 season in cyclocross, riding for Baloise Trek Lions, saw Shirin win her first ever World Cup race, which was followed by two more in quick succession. With a seventh place in Tábor the only odd one out, Van Anrooij finished on the podium in every race and finished the season winning the U23 World title in Hoogerheide.
Shirin moved seamlessly to the road for the 2023 season and soon won her first WorldTour race at Trofeo Binda, a podium place at Amstel Gold and a silver medal in Glasgow at the UCI Road World Champs in the U23 road race. In 2024 Shirin finished the season as the UCI Best Young Rider after some cracking results in the Classics, so she’s certainly one to watch.
