Shirin van Anrooij
U23 UCI Cyclocross World Champion
Winner of Trofeo Alfredo Binda 2023
In 2023, Shirin van Anrooij announced herself on the world stage winning her first WorldTour race at Trofeo Binda, a podium place at Amstel Gold, the overall at the Tour l'Avenir and a silver medal in Glasgow at the UCI Road World Champs in the U23 road race.
In 2024 Shirin finished the season as the UCI Best Young Rider after impressive podium results in the Classics, including third at the Tour of Flanders, but throughout what would be considered by most to be a successful season, Shirin insisted something didn’t feel right and at the end of the 2024 season Shirin underwent successful iliac artery surgery. She will return on the road in 2025.
As a junior, Shirin van Anrooij was World Junior Cyclocross Champion and won multiple national titles in both road and cyclocross. After this early success, Shirin joined Lidl Trek (then Trek-Segafredo) at the age of 18 alongside the likes of Lizzie Deignan and Elisa Longo Borghini as her teammates in her first year in the elite ranks.
Shirin still races both cyclocross and road, having claimed world medals in both. The 22/23 season in cyclocross, riding for Baloise Trek Lions, saw Shirin win her first World Cup race, which was followed by two more in quick succession. Van Anrooij finished on the podium in every race bar one and finished the season winning the U23 World title in Hoogerheide. Shirin missed the 23/24 season due to injury and the 24/25 season due to the iliac artery surgery but will be back for 25/26.
